Ham Testing

Amateur (“ham”) radio is a hands-on hobby that combines technology, experimentation, and real-world communication. Licensed operators use radio waves to connect across town or around the world, without the need for Internet, cellular service, and other infrastructure.
There are many aspects of the hobby, among them building your own equipment, experimenting with electronic circuits, designing antennas, working with digital modes, contacting satellites, creating portable “off-grid” stations that can operate anywhere, and transmitter hunting, to name a few. It’s a practical way to learn electronics, radio theory, and communication systems while having fun exploring what’s possible.
Ham radio also offers a powerful advantage — independent communication when traditional systems aren’t available. Whether you’re off the grid, in remote areas, or facing an emergency, amateur radio can keep you connected.
You can get started in ham radio by passing a 35 question, multiple-choice exam to earn your Technician license. You can find the question pool, study guides and other study resources, equipment recommendations, and a bunch of experienced radio operators to chat with in the LayerOne Discord #radio channel.
If you’re already licensed and looking to upgrade to a higher license class, we can handle that, too.
Join our upcoming amateur radio testing session and take the first step into a hobby where you can build, experiment, and communicate anywhere. Sign up at THIS LINK! Testing takes place on Saturday, May 23, 2026 at 18:00 Pacific time in the Lockpicking Village.
